    The Ontario Building Code sets out the minimum safety requirements regarding public health, fire protection and structural sufficiency. This program has been developed to assist those students that enter the design, inspection or construction industry to interpret and apply code requirements correctly.

    The Building Inspection Technician Program is a two-year program that includes academic, technical, and code skills. Along with a foundation of building code courses, the placement component will be an integral feature of the program.

    This program, when taken on-site at the Porcupine Campus, is a laptop program with a mandatory lab fee of $1000 for lease of the laptop. Upon graduation students have the option of buying out the laptop for $1.

    Employment Opportunities

    Students graduating from this program may find employment opportunities with municipalities overseeing various code compliances.

    Admission Requirements

    Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD)
    Grade 12 English (C, U)
    Grade 12 Math (C, U) (MCT4C preferred; MAP4C is accepted with a minimum GPA of 60%)

    Or equivalent.

    Or mature student status (an applicant who does not have a high school diploma or equivalent, and will have reached the age of 19 years on or before the start of the program). Mature students must undergo academic testing prior to admission into a program. Call the Admissions Office at 705-235-7222 for more details.
