What is Subsidies - NOW?
The Subsidies for Northern Ontario Workers (Subsidies-Now) program is designed to assist individuals who are having difficulty finding work.
The Competitive Advantage
A wage subsidy is paid to employers who hire participants facing labour market difficulties, thus lowering their labour costs.
The subsidized employee can gain a niche in the labour market and adapt to changing labour market conditions.
Eligible Employers
Local businesses, organizations, public health & educational institutions, band/tribal councils, municipal and provincial governments, provincial and federal crown corporations.
Contribution
Negotiation of the contract is determined by the skill level and needs of the employee.

Participant Program Eligibility
- Must be presently unemployed
- Currently receiving or have received EI in the last 3 years or maternity/parental in the last 5 years
Program Guidelines
- Must not affect employment of existing employees
- Position must offer at least 35 hours of work per week and lead to permanent, full
- time employment
- Provide marketable employment skills
- Agreements must be approved and signed by the employer and a Subsidies
- NOW representative
- Before the client is hired a detailed employment plan must be submitted prior to the anticipated start date
- Employment plans will not be approved if an employer hires the client before the agreement is signed
- Subsidies will be reimbursed upon receipt of a monthly payment claim form
