President's Message

Fred GibbonsPresident’s Welcome

Whether one recognizes it today or comes to appreciate it later in life, learning is a lifelong process. This is a Guiding Principle contained in our Vision and Mission. If you subscribe to this principle, and practice it, you will become subject to a transformative process that better equips you for future employment, contributing to society in meaningful ways and generally just deriving more enjoyment out of life.

At Northern College, we put this view of lifelong learning as a transformative process in practice every day. As you consider your post secondary study options, we invite you to seriously consider Northern College as your “college of choice”. Here is why: Renewal and change is on! Over the past year and right through to September of 2010, we will have been engaged in an unprecedented capital expansion program that has resulted in new buildings or major upgrades at most of our campuses. In September 2009, we will bring on line a new state of the art Veterinary Science Centre at our Haileybury Campus. September 2010 will see the opening of a new Trades Centre at our Moosonee Campus anchored by a new 35,000-square- foot Trades and Technology Centre at the Porcupine Campus. Building improvements have been made at our Kirkland Lake Campus which enjoys a strategic co-location with a national research facility , the Materials and Joining Innovation Centre – MaJIC.

And of course, new facilities bring about the opportunity to introduce new programs –which we have done – dynamic programs that prepare graduates for the workforce with job ready skills.

I invite you to browse through our website or College Calendar and see why increasingly more students have made Northern College their “college of choice”. If you have questions, please give us a call. We are in service to you to help make your learning journey a satisfying and productive experience.

Fred Gibbons, President
