Advising
As part of the Northern College commitment to meet the unique needs of our students, advisors are available to provide assistance. Our advisors can help you with personal, financial, academic or social matters. In addition, advisors can help you with program and course selection. They are also involved in the administration of various aptitude, interest and special tests as well as career and employment placement. Services offered by the Advising Department include:
Pre-admission Testing
- Administration of pre-admissions tests for College applicants (mature student testing)
- Referral to upgrading classes when applicable
- Helps to determine strengths and weaknesses
- Invigilation of pre-admission testing for other colleges and universities
General Information/Guidance on Programs Offered
- Information on programs offered at other colleges and universities
- Information on block transfer agreements
- Aptitude and interest testing
Mediating Students Code of Conduct Issues
- Receive, investigate and resolve student Code of Conduct issues
- Provide information on Human Rights, student responsibilities and advising disciplinary measures
- Ensure a safe, secure and comfortable environment for study/living
Mediating Student Academic Issues
- Receive, investigate and assist in the resolution of student academic issues
- Advise students of their academic rights and responsibilities
- Advocate for students when required
- Help guide students who may be struggling and develop a plan of action to re-direct their path to academic success
Northern College Student Administrative Council Advisor (NCSA)
- Provide guidance to the NCSA throughout the year
- Act as a liaison between NCSA and Administration
- Oversee NCSA elections
