Alternative & Flexible Learning

If you are interested in trying to complete post-secondary education, but cannot commit to full time studies, then Alternative and Flexible learning is the right choice for you.

You can select from hundreds of courses and programs, with the ability to study on your own time. Some classes are part of full programs, and some are single courses. We also deliver Micro-credentials to help you specialize your expertise.

Ontario Learn

Northern College is a partner of the Ontario Learn network. In the Ontario Learn website you will find courses delivered by all Ontario Colleges that will help you to update your skills or complete a program.

Micro-Credentials

Micro-credentials are compact credentials that include short, concentrated courses which provide in-demand skills and knowledge based on the industry needs. Micro-credentials are offered through our online campus which provide flexibility and self-paced learning. Some micro-credentials will provide a pathway to our post-secondary programs.

Fall, Winter, and Summer semester intakes are available for certain Continuing Education programs. Individual courses and micro-credentials with monthly intakes begin on the first day of the month and typically last 14-16 weeks, depending on your course.

Registration opens one week before, and remains open for one week after the course starts. You have two weeks to withdraw from the course with a full refund, if you feel this course is not a fit. If you have questions at any time contact ontariolearn@northern.on.ca.
