The multi-panel plaque located in the atrium on the upper level of the new Centre of Excellence for Trades and Technology, features the names of the 46 campaign supporters in recognition of their investment in the Centre for skilled trades development in our northern communities.
Members of the Northern College’s Board of Governors from 2009-10 & 2010-11 were also recognized during today’s celebration for their vision and commitment to this, the largest expansion project undertaken by the college in the past 20 years. A dedication plaque with a listing of governor names was unveiled by Dave McGirr, Board Chair and Fred Gibbons, President for the opening of Northern College’s Centre of Excellence for Trades and Technology adjacent to the donor recognition plaque.
“It is very gratifying to see so many community businesses and individuals who have contributed more than $1.3 million to the fundraising campaign and overall success of this project. This provides a powerful affirmation to the efforts of Northern College to fulfill its mandate and positively impact workforce development in Northeastern Ontario”, said President Gibbons.
The new Centre located at the Porcupine Campus opened September 2010 featuring 33,000 sq/ft of new and renovated space, with classrooms and labs equipped with smart technology, industrial labs and a trades shop. The building acts as an alternative energy lab with extensive technology and infrastructure that allows the delivery of training and education to business and industry partners onsite and in their communities while providing applied research opportunities, new apprenticeship programs, and expanded partnerships with industry throughout Northeastern Ontario.
