Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities John Milloy on Wednesday, August 13th announced the provincial government's investment of $8 million towards the construction of the Nor Tech Centre for Trades and Technology. New and expanded facilities at the Porcupine Campus will allow the college to offer more programs in high-demand skilled trades and technology. A satellite Trades Centre in Moosonee will also be constructed.

November 23, 2007 - NEW DIAMOND DRILLER HELPER GRADS BEING PICKED UP BY MAJOR CANADIAN DRILLING COMPANIES
Kirkland Lake – The mining exploration industry must be quite excited in having trained diamond driller helpers coming into their field. This is quite apparent since three out of the five diamond drilling companies interested in hiring grads were willing to travel long distances in order to interview the graduating class of the new Surface Diamond Driller Assistant Common Core program offered through Northern College’s Haileybury School of Mines. The 10-week program was delivered in Kirkland Lake and made possible due in large part to the partnerships created with Canadian Driller Training, Cabo Drilling (Ontario) Corp., Kirkland Lake Gold Inc. and the Canadian Diamond Drilling Association. In total, eleven graduates will be courted to start working for exploration projects all over Canada.
