March 16, 2009 - Annual Powwow
TIMMINS – Northern College’s annual traditional powwow will be held at the Porcupine Campus April 18 and 19. This year’s theme is Honouring the Teachings of our Grandfathers.
“The powwow promises a weekend of traditional drumming, dancing, arts and crafts, and educational displays,” said Carole Belanger, Northern College communications officer. “Northern’s annual powwow is always a wonderful celebration of Aboriginal culture and friendships, as well as an excellent opportunity for non-Aboriginal members of the community to learn more about Aboriginal culture and to experience some of it first-hand.”
Host drum will be Eagle Flight Singers (London), co-host drum, Starlodge Singers (Wiki), invited drum, Otterhead Singers (Moose Factory). Darren McGregor and Teresa Manitowabi will be the head dancers.
New contests and dances have been added to the program.
Admission is free and the public is welcome.
