June 28, 2010 - Summer Orientation Program for Learning & disABILITIES Centres
TIMMINS – Northern College’s Learning and disABILITIES Centres at the Porcupine, Kirkland Lake and Haileybury campuses will host a Summer Orientation Program for first-year students with learning disabilities and ADHD.
The Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities provides funding for Northern College to provide this service free of charge to assist learning disabled students make a successful transition to post-secondary education.
The “need to succeed” is important to all Northern College students and adjusting to learning at a post-secondary level can be a whole new experience for the learning disabled who already manage a multitude of personal challenges.
The five-day sessions will provide students with an orientation to services and facilities available to them at the College. Students will be able to make personal connections with staff in the Learning and disABILITIES Centres and be informed of the support and services that are available. Students will be introduced to new technology, learning approaches and theories for the disabled.
These free sessions will be held at the:
Porcupine Campus – August 16th – 20th (Session 1) and August 23rd – August 27th (Session 2)
Kirkland Lake and Haileybury Campuses – August 30th – September 3rd
