TIMMINS, ON (January 22, 2018): Northern College recently hosted two visiting college professors from Chongqing Industry Polytechnic College, one of its partner schools in China. During the two-week visit, the professors participated in a customized teacher training program lead by Northern College faculty and administrators and participated in classroom observations in a variety of program areas.
“The teaching methodology used in Chinese colleges is quite different than what students experience in Canadian colleges,” stated Northern College President, Dr. Fred Gibbons. “Our focus includes a more collaborative and interactive approach to classroom teaching, giving students more responsibility to research subject matter while faculty direct and guide the process.”
“Chinese post-secondary institutions are trying to incorporate more of the North American teaching methods in their classrooms in an effort to promote a shared responsibility for a student’s learning process,” stated Gibbons.
The visiting faculty from Chongqing Industry Polytechnic College will be responsible for teaching Northern College subject matter when they return home. Northern College has ten such institutional partnerships in China where Chinese students can study Northern College curriculum leading to a Northern College – Ontario College Diploma.
