HAILEYBURY, ON: Construction of a new student residence at Northern College Haileybury Campus is proceeding according to schedule, with concrete footings and the building’s foundation being recently poured.
The new four-storey Haileybury Campus Residence will feature 16 apartment-style units, each housing four students. Each unit will include a kitchen with eat-in dining area, living room and two bathrooms.
Campus Living Centres, who is building the residence, will also assume operations once it is complete. Campus Living Centres is the largest owner and operator of student housing in Canada, and has experience working with northern Ontario colleges, including Collège Boréal, Cambrian College, Canadore College and Confederation College.
Demand for accommodations at the Haileybury Campus arises from a major increase in enrolment due to the recent creation and expansion of the college’s School of Veterinary Sciences. Over 65 per cent of students studying at the campus now come from outside of the Temiskaming Shores area.
“The creation of our Veterinary Sciences programming has changed our student body. We now have an increasing percentage of students coming from southern Ontario,” says Fred Gibbons, President of Northern College. “It can be challenging for our students to find rental accommodations, and we’re pleased that our work with Campus Living Centres will make it easier for our students to find affordable housing that’s close to campus.”
Construction of the Haileybury Campus Residence is scheduled to be completed in August 2015, in time to accept residents for the 2015 – 2016 academic year.
