Comments Invited on Strategic Mandate Agreement

During last winter’s Town Hall meetings reference was made to an interest the provincial government had been expressing in developing a new vision for post-secondary education. In fact, this past June, Glen Murray, Minister of Training Colleges and Universities, released a discussion paper entitled Strengthening Ontario’s Centres of Creativity, Innovation and Knowledge. The release of this paper initiated a series of consultations throughout the province during the summer months.

A New Vision for Post Secondary Education in Ontario

On June 27, 2012, the Honourable Glen Murray, Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities and Ontario’s Finance Minister and Deputy Premier, Dwight Duncan released a discussion paper seeding new ideas for post-secondary education in Ontario, a discussion paper intended to evoke transformation making our publicly funded university and college system stronger.

The New Year is the time to unfold new horizons and realize our dreams, to rediscover the strength and faith within us; to rejoice in simple pleasures, celebrate achievements, and gear up for opportunities and challenges ahead.

October 18, 2011: International Enrolment Grows in China

I have just returned from a visit to our partner colleges in China. Thus far we have two active joint ventures at partner colleges - Yangzhou College of Environment and Resources offers our Environmental Technician Water and Waste Water Systems Operations program and the Construction Engineering Technician - Building Management diploma programs, while Taizhou Teacher's College began offering our Early Childhood Education program this fall. In total we now have 93 full time Chinese students studying in our programs being delivered by Chinese faculty, in English.

July 22, 2011: Kirkland Lake Campus Student Residence

I guess it was to be expected that with the significant growth that we have seen in first year enrolment over the past 2 years, and it looks as though we will sustain that growth this year, that student accommodation would become problematic for us.

Coupled with this growing demand is a general lack of suitable accommodation in our campus communities due to very strong local economies and the greater number of transient workers.

Our greatest challenges are at our Kirkland Lake and Haileybury campuses and each of these challenges has a different underlying reason.
