TIMMINS, ON: After the successful completion of a formal tender process, the Presidential Search Committee of Northern College is pleased to announce its decision in selecting the consultant that will help lead the search for the College’s new leader.

The Phelps Group Inc. has been chosen to assist in the search for the new President and CEO of Northern College.

The College’s Search Committee, appointed by the organization’s Board of Governors, oversaw the RFP process.

“The Phelps Group is an experienced executive search firm with expertise in successfully recruiting senior academic administration for post-secondary institutions across Canada,” stated George Pirie, Chair of the Search Committee and Northern College’s Board of Governors. “We look forward to working with them as we move forward in the next phase of recruiting,” he added.

Working with the Presidential Search Committee, the Phelps Group will establish processes to set up consultations within the College and the broader community to gather input on the profile of skills, qualities and experience for a new President and CEO of the institution.

“Finding strong leadership to follow the impressive legacy of Dr. Gibbons is key to us as we move forward together,” stated First Vice-Chair of the Search Committee, Doug Walsh. “With the intention of the Board and the organization to have a new President in place by the beginning of the academic year in September 2020, we are on schedule with the recruitment process.”

The Presidential Search Committee is comprised of the following members of the Board of Governors:

• Mr. George Pirie, Chair
• Mr. Doug Walsh, First Vice-Chair
• Mr. Domenic Rizzuto, Second Vice-Chair
• Ms. Lillian Trapper, Governor and Chair of the Northern College Indigenous Council on Education
• Ms. Cathy Ellis, Governor

The search for a new President for Northern College began after the November announcement of Dr. Fred Gibbon’s intention to retire in June of 2020 after a decade of impressive leadership in the Presidential role. The Board will work with Dr. Gibbons on succession planning to continue the College’s success and build momentum as it moves into a new strategic cycle.

Future updates on the recruitment process for the Presidential search will be posted on the Board of Governors’ portal of Northern College’s website at http://www.northerncollege.ca/presidential-search/.
