Northern College News and Events

KIRKLAND LAKE, ON: The Northern College Kirkland Lake Campus Auditorium Renewal Project held a donor recognition and thank you event on Friday, to celebrate the project’s many successes. Thanks to the generous support of individuals, businesses, community organizations and the federal government, the project members have successfully raised the funds needed to replace the auditorium’s ailing seating and draperies, and to upgrade its lighting and sound equipment.

Friday’s event was attended by Northern College President Fred Gibbons; Vice-President, Finance, Administration and Indigenous Services Mike Baker; Executive Director – Student Services, Institutional Research and Registrar Lynn Berthiaume; Kirkland Lake Campus Manager Allan French; Foundation Manager Douglas Clark; David Gorman, Fundraising Chair for the Buy a Seat campaign; and representatives from the college’s Board of Governors.

They were joined by several prominent donors, including Mr. Les Cassidy and Mr. Randy Godfrey, who made generous contributions of $100,000 and $28,000 to the project respectively.

“We are truly humbled by the overwhelming support that the Auditorium Renewal Project has received from the people, businesses and organizations of Kirkland Lake and beyond,” said Gibbons. “Our auditorium is an essential resource for our community and will continue to be so for many years to come, thanks to this successful renewal project.”

Friday’s event consisted of a wine a cheese social in the campus cafeteria, followed by presentations and the unveiling of a donor recognition plaque mounted near the entrance to the auditorium. All individuals, businesses and organizations who supported the project through the Buy a Seat campaign and beyond are formally commemorated on the plaque.

The Northern College Kirkland Lake Campus auditorium is an essential resource for the Town of Kirkland Lake. The 500-seat venue hosts a variety of cultural events including concerts and live theatre, and is used during community events including the town’s annual Winter Carnival.
