Northern College Graduates Continue to Impress

Northern College News and Events

TIMMINS, ON: According to new data released by Colleges Ontario, Northern College graduates continue to find high levels of employment and receive rave reviews from employers, improving on last year’s impressive results. Released today, the 2012-13 Colleges of Applied Arts and Technology Key Performance Indicators (KPI) highlight a 97.2 per cent employer satisfaction rate with Northern College graduates.

Northern College has a graduate employment rate of 87.5 per cent, nearly 4 per cent above the provincial average of 83.6 per cent, and an employer satisfaction rate of 3.8 per cent higher than the provincial average. Northern College received the second highest employer satisfaction grade across Ontario, and is the only college to receive zero responses of employer dissatisfaction.

The Colleges of Applied Arts and Technology Key Performance Indicators were developed collaboratively by Colleges Ontario, student associations and the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities to help institutions gauge their success and determine ways to improve. Each year students, graduates and employers are surveyed to measure satisfaction. Compared to last year, Northern has improved in employer satisfaction (+6.4 to 97.2 per cent) and graduate satisfaction (+2.2 to 84 per cent).

“This year’s KPI results reflect our commitment to meeting and exceeding industry needs,” said Fred Gibbons, President of Northern College. “These statistics confirm the positive feedback we receive from our local employers. Our graduates are well prepared for the workforce and quickly become invaluable team members, surpassing employer expectations. Our graduates find work and work hard.”

Province-wide, funding for 2012-13 of $16.4M was allocated based on the institutions’ performance in three indicators: employment rate, graduate satisfaction, and employer satisfaction. The funding is expected to remain the same for 2013-14, and individual college allocations will be released with preliminary allocations at a later date.

Since 1998, the provincial KPIs have been gathered annually by two independent research firms for the colleges and for the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities. The most recent data were collected from March 2012 to February 2013. KPI results for all Ontario colleges are available at www.collegesontario.org.
