Northern College Graduates Making the Grade

Northern College News and Events

TIMMINS, ON: According to new data released by Colleges Ontario, Northern College graduates are getting high marks from employers. The 2011-2012 Colleges of Applied Arts and Technology Key Performance Indicators (KPI), released today, highlight a 90.8 per cent employer satisfaction rate with Northern College graduates.

Furthermore, the numbers show a graduate employment rate of 89.1 per cent and an 81.8 per cent graduate satisfaction rate, both within six months of graduation. The graduate employment and graduate satisfaction rates are among the independently gathered KPI data for the province’s colleges. These results put Northern College above the provincial average of 83 and 78.9 per cent, respectively.

Each year the Ontario college system surveys students, graduates and employers to measure satisfaction. Northern College’s 2011-2012 KPI results demonstrate that compared to last year, Northern has improved in employer satisfaction (+ 2.9 to 90.8 per cent) and graduate employment rate (+ 2.7 to 89.1 per cent).

“These statistics signify that we are moving forward in the right direction and confirm what we have been hearing from our local employers,” says Fred Gibbons, President of Northern College. “We pride ourselves in preparing our graduates for the workforce and with the increase in related Key Performance Indicators, it appears that our employers agree. Our KPIs indicate that we ranked second-highest in Ontario for our graduate employment rate and are among the top five Colleges in the province in relation to graduate satisfaction. This data speaks directly to the quality of education Northern College delivers. Our graduates find work and work hard.”

The Colleges of Applied Arts and Technology Key Performance Indicators were developed collaboratively by Colleges Ontario, student associations and the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities to help institutions gauge their success and determine ways to improve.
Since 1998, the provincial KPIs have been gathered annually by two independent research firms for the colleges and for the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities. The most recent data were collected from March 2011 to February 2012.
