HAILEYBURY, ON: On Friday, May 27th, 2016, a Haileybury Campus graduate was recognized by Northern College for her extraordinary academic achievements at the graduation ceremony.

Fred Gibbons, President and CEO of Northern College, and George Kemp, Chair of the Northern College Board of Governors, awarded Navita Ramdass the distinguished Governor General’s Academic Medal. It is awarded to a student who achieves the highest academic standing in a diploma-level post-secondary program college-wide.

Ramdass, a graduate of the Mining Engineering Technician program, was presented with a framed certificate along with a collegiate bronze medal. She completed her program by distance in order to continue to work and study from Guyana.

“I was apprehensive of distance learning at first but with Northern I was really surprised,” said Ramdass. “Support was always there with smaller class sizes and receiving the one-on-one attention that you need.”

Considering the amount of effort it takes to study by distance while working abroad and travelling for field school and exams, for her to maintain the highest academic standing is a stellar achievement. Ramdass is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Engineering in Mining Engineering at Laurentian University.

The staff at Northern College congratulates Ramdass and wish her continued success along her journey.
