TIMMINS, ON: Hundreds of high school students and members of the public from across Northeastern Ontario visited Northern College’s Timmins Campus on Thursday, October 12, to attend the college’s annual Fall Open House and College Information Program (CIP) tour.
This free event provided program and service information to current senior secondary school students from the region as well as adult learners who may want to attend college next year.
In addition to Northern College information booths, representatives from 22 Ontario colleges were on-site in the campus gymnasium from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Northern College awarded four bursaries valued at $500 each to prospective students in attendance.
For the first time, prospective students and their families also had the opportunity to explore each of the colleges during an evening fair took place on Wednesday, October 11, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. It was a successful addition to the event and will reoccur next year during the 2018 Fall Open House.
“Our annual Fall Open House is an excellent event for anyone considering a post-secondary education,” said Dr. Audrey J. Penner, Vice President, Academic and Student Success at Northern College. “The information we provide, as well as that provided by our peer colleges in attendance, is invaluable to attendees as they make informed choices for their future. While this is one of our larger annual events, we are always available to members of the public who wish to explore college programs and vocational choices at any of our four campus locations.”
The College Information Program is an annual province-wide tour providing prospective post-secondary students with direct access to representatives from Ontario’s colleges.
The CIP tour made an additional stop on Thursday at Timiskaming District Secondary School in New Liskeard, from 1:45 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. The Tour will conclude its Northeastern Ontario events on Friday, October 13, in North Bay and Parry Sound before moving on to other regions of Ontario.
