HAILEYBURY, ON: Northern College is making a substantial investment in infrastructure at its Haileybury Campus. The college will be replacing the ailing roof on the campus’s gymnasium, at cost in excess of a quarter million dollars.
The campus gymnasium is an integral part of the student experience. Major academic events, like orientation, graduation and awards ceremonies, are held in the gym. It is also used extensively for student activities, like intramural sports, live entertainment, and the Instrumentation and Control Engineering Technician program’s annual light show.
Community organizations also make extensive use of the gymnasium. The venue is often booked for large banquets and high school graduations. Elementary schools rent it out for sports tournaments, and a local dance school uses the space for recitals.
The current roof is over 27 years old, and needs replacement due to normal wear and tear.
“Our campuses are the embodiment of who we are as an institution, so it’s essential that we keep them maintained and up-to-date,” says Fred Gibbons, President of Northern College. “By replacing the roof of the Haileybury Campus gymnasium, we’re able to ensure that our students and members of the community are able to access this essential venue for decades to come.”
Replacement of the roof is slated to begin later this month, and will be completed by the fall. The project will be completed by Blanchfield Roofing Company Limited of North Bay. The gym will remain open throughout the construction process.
