TIMMINS, ON: Northern College’s Apprenticeship, Community and Corporate Training (ACCT) division and Cambrian College have established a partnership that will see Northern College’s Heavy Equipment Operator and Commercial Driving training delivered in the Sudbury area through Cambrian College. A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that outlines the details of the partnership will be officially signed on November 25, 2013.

Northern College currently delivers Commercial Driving and Heavy Equipment Operator training, as well as Heavy Equipment Operator assessments and tailored refresher training to corporate clients in Timmins and surrounding areas through a partnership with Valley Driver Training of Hanmer, Ontario. The new MOU will see Northern College and Valley Driver Training delivering the same training in Sudbury in collaboration with Cambrian College.

“Our partnership with Valley Driver Training has allowed us to provide access to high quality, in-demand training for the residents of northeastern Ontario,” said Bob Mack, Vice-President, Community, Business Development and Employment Services with Northern College “We’re pleased that our new partnership with Cambrian College will allow us to provide access to the very same training in the Sudbury region.”

“This new agreement enhances access to quality training for northern Ontarians who want to upgrade their driver or operator skills, obtain licenses, and improve their employment prospects,” said Cambrian College Interim President Sonia Del Missier. “Thanks to this collaboration, Sudbury-area students can now take advantage of this valuable training, close to their home communities.”

The MOU will be signed by Northern College President Fred Gibbons and Cambrian College Acting President Sonia Del Missier on November 25, 2013 via video conferencing. The signing will occur at 1:15 p.m.

Training is available to the public as well as to employers who are looking to develop their workforce through employee training. Through the college, students can obtain training to prepare for license tests including AZ, BZ, CZ, DZ, E, F and Z, and operator training for heavy equipment including backhoes, bulldozers, excavators, graders, loaders, rock trucks, skid steers and forklifts.
