Northern College Receives Accreditation From Truck Training Schools Association of Ontario

TIMMINS, ON: Northern College has become the first publicly-funded college in Ontario to receive accreditation from the Truck Training Schools Association of Ontario (TTSAO). The TTSAO is a non-profit organization which is working to establish standardized curriculum for commercial driving training throughout the province. Previously, the TTSAO had only recognized commercial driving programs at private career colleges.

In order to obtain TTSAO accreditation, training centres must meet strict TTSAO standards regarding equipment, licensing, facilities, instructor qualifications and curriculum. Accredited institutions provide their graduates with a TTSAO certificate, which is recognized by employers and insurance companies province-wide.

“Being the first publicly-funded college to receive TTSAO accreditation will provide unique advantages and added value to our students,” said Fred Gibbons, President of Northern College. “Students completing this type of training with Northern will have access to the kind of quality instruction that Northern is known for, as well as our student support, accessibility and advising services. The recognition that comes with professional accreditation and hands-on, practical learning will benefit our students, employers and industry throughout Ontario.”

Northern College offers a variety of commercial truck driving and heavy equipment operator programs, including a six-week AZ Truck Driving program. Many of Northern’s commercial driving programs meet the eligibility requirements for Second Career funding from the provincial government.
