Northern College Nominates Alumni For 2012 Premier's Awards
TIMMINS, ON: Northern College has nominated three alumni for the 2012 Premier’s Awards for Outstanding College Graduates. The Premier’s Awards are an annual provincial awards program that acknowledges the success of Ontario’s college graduates.
Nominated in the community service category is Mr. David Landers, CAO of the Cochrane District Social Services Administration Board (CDSSAB). Landers graduated from Northern College in 1995 with an honours diploma in Social Service Work. Mr. Daniel Dutrisac, Professor of Health Sciences at Northern College and Nurse Practitioner with the Victorian Order of Nurses – Porcupine Branch, graduated from Northern with a diploma in Business – Accounting/Commerce in 1982 and has been nominated in the health sciences category. Mr. Martin Michaud, Vice-President of External Services at BESTECH has been nominated in the business category. Michaud graduated in 1986 with a diploma in Business – Information Systems/Commerce and in 1987 with a diploma in Business Administration.
“We nominate Mr. Landers, Mr. Dutrisac and Mr. Michaud with great pride,” says Fred Gibbons, President of Northern College. “They have experienced tremendous success and exhibit qualities that align with Northern’s vision and guiding principles. These remarkable individuals have demonstrated a commitment to the betterment of their communities, contributed significantly to their profession and share a passion for continuous learning and professional development. They are true ambassadors of Northern College.”
Nominations are submitted from each of Ontario’s 24 colleges in six categories: business, creative arts and design, community services, health sciences, technology and recent graduate.
Premier’s Awards winners will be announced at a gala awards evening on Monday, Nov. 26, 2012 in Toronto. Each award winner is presented with a bronze medal, a framed certificate signed by the Premier of Ontario, and a $5,000 bursary directed to their alma mater.
Administered by Colleges Ontario, the Premier’s Awards for Outstanding College Graduates were launched in 1992 to mark the 25th anniversary of Ontario’s colleges.
Past Northern College recipients include Donald C. MacKinnon and Donald Jan Dekker, who both received the Premier’s Award for Technology. Previous Northern College nominees include Nancy Allick, Robert Stanley Lipic, Carol Halt, and Jacques Roy.
