![]() The Department of Aboriginal Programs and Access strives to meet the educational and training needs of aboriginal students who choose to take courses or programs at any of the College’s campuses and/or community-based First Nations adult education sites. Aboriginal Services The Aboriginal Programs and Services Department works to meet the needs of students and community members who are enrolled or hope to enroll in programs at our campuses or in community-based programs. Under the direction of the Northern College Aboriginal Council for Education (NCACE) the College continually develops and revises programs to be delivered on campus or in communities. The Community-Based Programs Coordinator works with these communities to assess needs, as well as to customize programs. In addition to certificate and diploma programs, the Department also offers career planning and employment preparation services to Aboriginal students. Advocacy on behalf of students, organization of orientation activities, assistance in the area of travel and accommodation, communication between sponsoring communities and students, and completion of forms are all services offered within the Department. Through the College’s Board of Governors Policy on Relationships with
Aboriginal People and Communities, all staff are mandated to partake
in a minimum of three cultural awareness activities per academic year.
The College has also committed itself to providing its students with
cultural awareness opportunities and to embedding Aboriginal cultural
content into its entire curriculum. For more information on NCACE, please visit Northern College's web site at www.northernc.on.ca or contact the President's Office at (705) 235-3211 ext. 7136 or e- mail info@northern.on.ca Programs
