Computers are now used in literally every aspect of society and there will always be a need for people skilled in their use. Information Systems is a combination of computer skills and business skills. Northern's Information Systems program covers information management and systems development. Information management consists of the storage, maintenance, processing and presentation of information. Systems development is about developing different uses for computers and using computer software to meet the special needs of business and industry, as well as to solve their specific problems. Information Systems blends courses from business and computer studies to give students a wide range of skills. By taking business courses, students will be able to better understand the needs and problems of business-based computer users. By taking courses from the Computer Science Technology program, they will learn how to solve computer and operating system and security problems and help users with new computer techniques.
