Co-op ApprenticeshipIn this program, students will learn the basic fundamentals of diesel engines, power trains, electrical systems, hydraulic systems and brake systems. They will also learn the basic principles of welding and be introduced to the metal cutting process.

This program provides students with the training equivalent to the apprenticeship in-school component of Heavy Equipment Basic Level.

Students successfully completing the Heavy Equipment Techniques program may continue into semester three of the Heavy Equipment Technician program at Cambrian College.

Employment Opportunities

Graduates may work in the heavy duty equipment industry as trainees or as apprentice mechanics carrying out maintenance on mobile heavy equipment in forestry, mining, construction and farming operations or as parts or salespersons. They may also enter other mechanical fields such as truck and coach technician, power lift truck technician, and farm equipment technician.

Admission Requirements

Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD)
Grade 12 English (C, M, U)
Grade 11 Math (C, M, U)

Or equivalent.

Or mature student status (an applicant who does not have a high school diploma or equivalent, and will have reached the age of 19 years on or before the start of the program). Mature students must undergo academic testing prior to admission into a program. Call the Admissions Office at 705-235-7222 for more details.
