Electrical engineering technologists work individually, assist engineers, or supervise other technologists or technicians in the design, construction, testing, installation, repair or marketing of electrical apparatus for electrical utilities, telecommunications and the information technology industries.

Thruway System
The Electrical Engineering Technology program at Northern College is offered on a “Thruway” basis. This means all students enrolled in this program are eligible to receive the technician's diploma upon successful completion of the second year. Those who wish to do so may return for a third year of specialization at the Technology level.

Employment Opportunities

Graduates will be prepared to meet the demands of prospective employers in a wide spectrum of fields, such as sales, utilities, mining, pulp and paper, hospitals, municipalities, telecommunications, information technology, and electrical consulting firms among others. Graduates who are seeking a challenging and rewarding career will find many opportunities in this broad and exciting field.

Admission Requirements

This program is oversubscribed and receives more than enough qualified applicants to fill the seats available. Applicants accepted into oversubscribed programs confirm their offer and pay their fees early to reserve a place in the program.

Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD)
Grade 12 English (C, M, U)
Grade 12 Math (C, M, U) (MCT4C preferred; MAP4C is accepted with a minimum GPA of 60%)

Or equivalent.

Or mature student status (an applicant who does not have a high school diploma or equivalent, and will have reached the age of 19 years on or before the start of the program).
