This is a new post-diploma certificate program developed for graduates of Environmental Technician, Computer Studies, and Instrumentation programs. The Plant Automation and Data Logging program will offer graduates of any of these programs the opportunity to enhance their employability in the areas of water treatment and wastewater treatment. It will achieve this objective by broadening their skill sets to include instrumentation, computer programming, databases, networking and water and wastewater treatment.

The program is designed with six core courses in each of Semesters I and II, from which students will choose four in each semester depending on the program from which they have graduated. Thus, students who have graduated from a recognized Instrumentation Technician program will take the courses offered by the Computer Studies and Environmental Technician departments. Graduates of Computer Studies will take the Instrumentation and Environmental Technician courses. Graduates of Environmental Technician will take the Computer Studies and Instrumentation courses.

All students will choose one general education course per semester from a list of possible offerings, according to Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities requirements, for a total of five courses per semester with ten courses being required to graduate.

Employment Opportunities

Students could find employment in water or wastewater treatment plants, instrumentation or IT departments of mines and other industries.

Admission Requirements

Students must have a current two-year diploma in a recognized Instrumentation Technician, Environmental Technician, Computer Programmer, or Computer Engineering Technician program.
