Pre Health Sciences
The Pre-Health Sciences program provides students with the opportunity to study subject areas relevant to health career programs at Northern College and affiliate partners and to instill an appreciation of the professional roles, responsibilities and academic requirements of health care disciplines. The goal of the program is to prepare men and women for their chosen health career program. Completing both semesters of this program successfully will provide the pre-requisites for entry into the Bachelor of Science – Nursing, Practical Nursing, and Paramedic programs. Admission Requirements Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) Or equivalent. Or mature student status (an applicant who does not have a high school diploma or equivalent, and will have reached the age of 19 years on or before the start of the program). Mature students must undergo academic testing prior to admission into a program and must demonstrate equivalency to admission requirements. Contact the Admissions Office at 705-235-7222 for more details. Note: Academic prerequisites for this program may be obtained free of charge through Academic Upgrading. Refer to the Post-Secondary Preparation section in this calendar for more details. Note: It is strongly recommended that students entering the Pre-Health Sciences program have access to the Internet. In this program, Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics will provide students with a solid background to satisfy the entrance requirements for Northern’s Nursing Baccalaureate, RPN and Paramedic programs. Students wishing to enter into the Baccalaureate program in Nursing must have an overall GPA of 2.8 (B average) in the Pre-Health Sciences program to meet admission criteria required by university partner, Laurentian University.
