The Autism and Behavioural Science Ontario College Graduate Certificate program is designed for students who have completed a recognized diploma or degree program in the areas of education or human services (graduates of Social Service Worker, Child and Youth Worker, Early Childhood Education, Educational Assistant, Developmental Services Worker).

This program is ideal for adult learners or recent graduates who are currently working, but would like to obtain a specialization in autism and behaviour management.

Graduates who are currently working in a school, special education, daycare, or social services setting, should consider adding this unique certificate to their education.

Employment Opportunities

Employment opportunities for program graduates will be available in autism services, children’s services and in education.

Admission Requirements

This program is open to graduates of college diploma programs, such as Social Service Worker, Early Childhood Education, Educational Assistant, Developmental Services Worker, Child and Youth Worker and similar college human service programs, as well as those with a degree in social services.

Or equivalent.

Or mature student status (an applicant who does not have a high school diploma or equivalent, and will have reached the age of 19 years on or before the start of the program). Mature students must undergo academic testing prior to admission into a program. Call the Admissions Office at 705-235-7222 for more details.

Note: Academic prerequisites for this program may be obtained free of charge through Academic Upgrading. Refer to the Post-Secondary Preparation section in this calendar for more details.

* Note: Students will be responsible to obtain “Non-violent crisis prevention and intervention (NVCPI) training” prior to starting Field Placement

Delivery

This program is offered via Contact North, Northern Ontario’s distance education and training network. Northern College, Canadore College and Confederation College will all be providing courses towards this certificate. Participants will attend evening classes through a distance education format. College learners, instructors, and trainers can interact in real-time virtual classrooms despite the barriers of distance, sparse population, and climatic extremes.

The Contact North/Contact Nord site in Timmins is located at Northern College’s Porcupine Campus, Highway 101 East. There are over 100 Contact North/Contact Nord sites throughout Northern Ontario. Please visit www.cnorth.edu.on.ca to find a site close to you.
