Northern College’s School of Human Services provides students with the education and experience to enable them to work with children, youth, adults, and families in the context of a helping relationship.

Important

It is important to note that all Human Services programs require a field work component. While the intent is for placements to be arranged in the student’s own community, when this is not possible, alternate communities will need to be considered. Students are responsible for the cost of travel to and from field work placement sites, parking costs, etc. A dress code is in effect during all lab practice sessions and during the field work component of the programs.

To be eligible for participation in field work training, students must not have been convicted of any criminal offences for which they have not been pardoned.

Note: An unpardoned criminal record will result in an inability to participate in the field work placements and will prevent the student from graduating. All course work must be successfully completed prior to field work placements.

All students will be required to undergo English language skills assessment during the first week of school. Support services will be made available for those students requiring assistance.

Programs in the School of Human Services require that students have computer skills before classes start. It is expected that students will have computer proficiency in Microsoft Office (word processing, spreadsheets), web search engines and e-mail systems.
