Northern's School of Mining Engineering Technology, located in Haileybury Ontario, sets the standard for mining education in Canada and world-wide. Mining is an industry marked by technological change and challenge. Employers seek graduates who are highly motivated, computer literate and able to adapt to a variety
of conditions.
For those who choose such a challenging career, the rewards are excellent. The technician is part of the engineering team, involved in all aspects of mining. The opportunities range from exploration, planning, development and mining operations, to mineral extraction and environmental control.
The broad-based program, which integrates studies in geology, surveying, mining and extractive metallurgy offers employment opportunities in all aspects of mining and exploration.
Today's mining has a safety record that is above the average of all other industrial activities. Mining has evolved into a safe, efficient and high-tech
industry that employs highly skilled tradespersons, technicians, technologists, and engineers. Technicians are a part of the engineering team involved in all
aspects of mining.
The Haileybury School of Mines (HSM) has been training mining professionals for 100 years.
Highlights

The Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT) recognizes the Mining Engineering Technician program
as meeting the academic requirements for certification.

Accreditations / Affiliations
Graduates from our Technician Program may obtain certification through the
Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT).
Haileybury School of Mines Alumni group facilitates networking for Haileybury graduates. It is also our goal to reinvigorate the Haileybury brand and thus support
growth initiatives at the school to ensure its continued survival well into the future.
Northern College now has a Northern Office of Applied Research and Innovation (NOARI) which benefits students by providing opportunities to pursue applied research.
