Electrical Engineering Technician

Northern College offers a comprehensive Electrical Engineering Technician program that will prepare you to work in the electrical transmission and distribution or power generation industry. This program’s advanced curriculum incorporates theory and practical, hands-on experience. You’ll train on state-of-the-art equipment at Northern’s Hydro One Energy Centre. Graduates of the Electrical Engineering Technician program may choose to continue their studies and complete an additional year in order to obtain an Ontario college advanced diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology. Graduates of the Electrical Engineering Technology program may be eligible to enroll in the Electrical Engineering degree program at Lakehead University or the McMaster-Mohawk Bachelor of Technology program.
Mining Engineering Technician
Northern College’s Haileybury School of Mines Mining Engineering Technician program is flexible and allows you to further your education to get ahead in the mining industry without changing your lifestyle. If you’re interested in taking the Mining Engineering Technician program primarily through distance learning, it is offered in an accommodating format that lets you choose when and where you’ll learn best. Our program is geared to suit your schedule – whether you’re working, raising a family, or you just want a program that complements your individual lifestyle. Through distance learning, you will learn theory and get hands-on experience through the yearly field school component.
Our highly-reputable Practical Nursing program has been designed to teach you the dynamics of care and encourages interdisciplinary cooperation. At Northern, you’ll train in cutting-edge labs using state-of-the-art simulation equipment and take part in clinical during your very first year. You’ll receive plenty of hands-on experience and gain the skills and confidence you need to excel at the bedside with real patients. Many of the faculty members are nurses and nurse practitioners who are dedicated to the profession and to their students. The Practical Nursing program will equip you with the skills you need to play an integral role in health care. You’ll develop the skills to work with individuals and families to plan, implement and evaluate outcome-based nursing care, services and programs that promote health and rehabilitation, prevent injury and disease, maintain and restore health, and provide palliation. Graduates of this program may find employment in acute or long-term care facilities, hospitals, community agencies, mental health services, doctors’ offices, government and even in industry.
Our Veterinary Technician program receives hundreds of applications from all over Ontario every single year. This two-year diploma program provides an ideal route to a personally and professionally rewarding career and pathways to higher-education and specialization. As a Veterinary Technician student, you’ll have plenty of opportunity for hands-on training and close contact with animals. At the start of the school year, the School of Veterinary Sciences receives companion animals from shelters. Throughout the year, you’ll work with these animals to rehabilitate, socialize and prepare them for their forever homes. In the spring, they are adopted out and because of the hard work and dedication of our Veterinary Sciences students and faculty, these pets enjoy a higher success rate in their new homes.
Welding Engineering Technology
Our program is not just about arcs and sparks; it is about science, technology and the engineering of welding. You will learn to develop, qualify, and implement welding procedures; use your knowledge of welding, metallurgy, mechanics, and electronics in the design and manufacturing of safe structures. You’ll also learn to inspect and maintain the integrity of such structures while they are in service. Welding Engineering Technologists are trained thinkers and skilled workers who play an important role in the industry. This program will ensure your skills are up-to-date by providing high quality training and knowledge in welding processes, materials, physics, failure analysis, and circuits. You can choose to take the co-op option and gain valuable work experience and earn real cash while working towards your diploma.
