Simply Accounting – Evening Course
Duration: 10 Weeks

Course Description
This course includes learning basic accounting tasks using Sage Simply Accounting Premium 2013. Students will learn to enter transactions for general ledger, accounts receivable, accounts payable, inventory, and managing capital expenses.

Who Should Attend
People who have taken a Microsoft Windows – Level 1 and Accounting Fundamentals course, or have equivalent work experience.

Course Outline
Week 1: Introduction and General Journal
• Selecting data files
• Moving around in Sage50
• Working with accounts
• Session date
• Set up Company module
• General Journal transactions

Week 2: Inventory and Services
• Set up Inventory module
• Inventory transactions

Week 3: Accounts Payable
• Set up payables module, working with suppliers and accounts payable transactions
• Printing cheques and purchase orders

Week 4: Accounts Payable continued
• Modifying existing purchase invoices
• Batch printing, prepayments and reversing payments
• Accounts payable reports

Week 5: Accounts Receivable
• Set up receivables module
• Working with customers
• Accounts receivable transactions, record receipts, adjusting transactions and refunds

Week 6: Accounts Receivable continued
• Accounts receivable reports and charging interest on overdue accounts
• Printing customer statements
• Record NSF payments and write off bad debts
• Remit HST owing/receivable

Week 7: Payroll
• Set up payroll module
• Working with employees
• Payroll transactions, corrections and reports

Week 8: Payroll continued
• Set up income and deduction types
• Working with payroll authorities
• Final pay, vacation pay, ROE information, mass updates and T4’s

Week 9: Banking and credit cards
• Bank reconciliation, setting up credit cards and managing petty cash

Week 10: Month end and Year end
• Month end and year end procedures and setting up sales taxes
