Northern College Submits Strategic Mandate Agreement to Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities
TIMMINS, ON: On September 30th, Northern College’s proposed Strategic Mandate Agreement was submitted to Ontario’s Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities, setting the agenda for a comprehensive conversation with government to collaborate on further development and implementation of the proposed mandate.
Highlighting the college’s dedication to student success, the document discusses strategies to maintain and develop Northern’s pre-eminent leadership position in providing education and training that is fluidly responsive to the needs of students, the regional labour market, and the greater community.
This Strategic Mandate Agreement has been informed by Northern College’s 2013-2016 strategic plan which was shaped by extensive input from over 1000 internal and external stakeholders. “The insights of our communities are essential to building on our success as a hub of education, training, innovation and a driver of positive change in northeastern Ontario,” says Fred Gibbons, President of Northern College.
Northern College is committed to the economic success and well being of our communities by maximizing educational access, engagement and choice. Current and relevant signature programs focus on applied learning to meet the current and future needs of our learners, communities and employers.
The proposal is part of a province-wide initiative announced by Glen Murray, Ontario's Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities, and is in response to his paper titled Strengthening Ontario’s Centres of Creativity, Innovation and Knowledge: A Discussion Paper on Innovation to Make Our University and College System Stronger.
