“Xstrata Copper – Kidd Operation’s contribution has enabled the East End Family Health Team (EEFHT) to take a significant step forward in healthcare delivery while transforming access to primary and specialized care with a patient-oriented approach,” said Fred Gibbons, President of Northern College. “This donation is a true testament to the charitable investments local corporations are making to enhance healthcare and education in our community.”
The Telemedicine equipment purchase has provided the EEFHT with access to two-way videoconferencing specific to health care through the Ontario Telemedicine Network to facilitate assessments at a distance. This technology provides health related education to both patients and health care providers, improved accessibility to specialized physicians and allied health care professionals. By reducing travel costs and the risks associated with receiving specialized care, this equipment improves patient safety, comfort and social supports by providing care locally.
“The innovative use of technology is vital to our operation of the world’s deepest base metal mine and concentrator site. As users of technology to improve our own business, we recognize its benefits in enhancing the effectiveness of, and access to much-needed services. Xstrata Copper – Kidd Operations is therefore extremely pleased to support the East End Family Health Team in the purchase of Telemedicine equipment that will deliver greater educational opportunities to local health professionals and improve access to specialized care for patients in our community,” said Tom Semadeni, General Manager, Xstrata Copper – Kidd Operations.
In five short months, the Telemedicine equipment has allowed the EEFHT to facilitate nine patient consults, three educational opportunities, and two administrative meetings.
