TIMMINS, ON: Northern College is gearing up to host motivational speaker Lesley Andrew on Thursday, February 20, 2014. Andrew will deliver a presentation titled Beating the Odds – Taking Responsibility for Personal Change and Growth, Overcoming Obstacles, Facing Fears and Attaining Goals.
Andrew is an accomplished Canadian singer, actor and textile artist. She has undertaken concert and recital tours of Canada, the United States, Europe and Argentina. She also has a long list of Stratford Festival acting credits. Her motivational speaking has garnered her spots on top television shows including The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and The Oprah Winfrey Show.
As a youth, Andrew had difficulty in school. She was diagnosed with dyslexia and the inability to translate thoughts into words. It was not until she began to use alternative format learning materials and techniques that she began to thrive. She has since obtained an undergraduate degree and achieved international success.
Andrew’s presentation covers a range of topics, including the gifts of being learning disabled, creative problem solving, the importance of art, and developing organizational skills. She emphasizes that a good teacher can have a significant impact on the success of a student, and that learning disabilities don’t have to be a barrier to reaching personal, educational or career goals.
Andrew’s presentation will be open to the public, at a cost of $25 per person. It will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on February 20 at Northern College. For more information or to register, contact Shanna Lecuyer by email at email@example.com or by phone at 705.235.3211 ext. 2272.
“Accessibility is a cornerstone of the Northern College philosophy. We strongly believe in barrier-free, quality education that is learner-focused,” said Fred Gibbons, President of Northern College. “We are pleased to have Lesley Andrew speak to our students, staff and faculty and the members of our communities. Her story and message illustrate that with strength and support, anyone can achieve tremendous success. This presentation touches on topics that impact the personal and professional lives of so many people.”
