HAILEYBURY, ON: Construction of the Haileybury Campus student residence will continue over the summer and will wrap up later than originally planned. Completion is now slated for late October.
The delay is a result of amendments to the engineering drawings which were required to accommodate fully modular construction. Plans are being finalized and will be submitted to the City of Temiskaming Shores for site plan and building permit approvals shortly. Even with this delay, the choice of modular construction allows for a much quicker completion date.
“We understand that this is an inconvenience to students and parents and we are currently working with the developer to find solutions,” said Fred Gibbons, President of Northern College. “The developer is presently contacting students who have signed housing rental agreements to discuss short-term, alternate accommodation arrangements in Haileybury.”
Both two-story structures will accommodate 30 students each and are pet friendly. Barrier-free design has been incorporated to the residence and associated landscaping to ensure the rooms, yard and route to the college campus building are fully accessible.
The Haileybury residence will be operated by CW Student Residence Solutions. The new on-campus buildings will be located in the scenic Rock Walk Park, with a street presence. It will also have some of the architectural features of the original campus building, constructed about 75 years ago, including a blend of brick and stone and elongated windows.
