Surface Diamond Driller
Assistant Common Core Program
About this Training Program
This modular program covers the basic knowledge and skills required to work competently as a helper to a Surface and/or Underground Diamond Drill Operator. The program aims to prepare students to directly enter the field. Students learn to set-up/take-down and troubleshoot issues that may arise on a worksite, and most importantly to operate safely. The program includes modules from the Ministry of Labour, Skills Development and Training Certification Program 770200 and 770150.
Duration: 8 weeks SDDACC
August 30 – October 22, 2021
October 4 – November 26, 2021
Pre-requisites (may include but not be limited to):
- Future Focused – Work and Job Readiness
- Mine site specific prerequisites or requirements may also apply. Details provided upon registration.
- Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent; students who have not completed high school will complete a Mechanical Reasoning Test which will be used to identify any potential barriers to learning and allow us to make the proper referrals to campus resources
Delivery and Important Information
This program requires a partnership with mining exploration partners that can provide access to a surface and/or underground drill and support placement for students in drilling operations. Delivery is face-to-face with hands-on learning and practice in the underground environment. Mine may provide upon acceptable demonstration of competency, both trainer and employer modular sign offs.
Pathways to Success and Career Opportunities
Graduates fill roles working in the extractive sector as Diamond Driller Assistants or Helpers.
